2022-2023 Research Initiatives with Community-Engaged Teaching and Research

During the academic year 2022-2023, CETR actively participated in several research initiatives with a focus on community engagement and making a positive impact. Working in collaboration with the University’s Research Development team, the School of Public Policy and Urban Affairs, and the College of Arts, Media, and Design, we launched a Runway to Broader Impacts program. This program aimed to create a peer learning community for faculty members at any career stage who were interested in exploring various topics related to community-engaged research. The program consisted of six hybrid learning sessions, bringing together around 80 faculty members. These sessions covered subjects such as the Principles of Anti-Oppressive Community Engagement, developing a Scholarly Impact Identity Statement, and gaining a deeper understanding of community priorities. The focus was on working within research and partnership teams to prioritize and address community needs. Feedback from participants in our end-of-program survey indicated positive experiences, with comments such as “I enjoyed meeting people from different parts of the university and gaining new perspectives” and “I now have a better understanding of opportunities to collaborate with community partners.”
Alongside this program, CETR was also involved with the Impact Accelerator Community 2 Community and the Impact Engine iSUPER. We collaborated with other research teams on campus, including an interdisciplinary group dedicated to Rural Health Initiatives.
Throughout all these endeavors, CETR remains committed to integrating its 20+ years of experience in ethical and authentic community-engaged teaching into the research sphere. With the university’s increased emphasis on impact and engagement in its recent academic plan, we continue to foster relationships and seek opportunities to support and collaborate on publicly engaged scholarship in meaningful ways.
