Faculty Feature: Curtis Odom

Professor Curtis Odom is an accomplished educator and Management and Organizational Development expert. He leads the Coaching, Mentoring & Sponsorship Institute at The Conference Board and is a distinguished member of the Forbes Coaches Council. Beyond his academic roles, Professor Odom is a seasoned entrepreneur, successful business owner, bestselling author, and a former executive in Fortune 100 companies. His teaching, consulting, and coaching are enriched by his extensive practical experience.

Professor Odom’s academic journey took shape at Pepperdine University, where he combined scholarly pursuits with practical insights. His background as a management consultant profoundly influences his research and teaching methods. He employs various techniques, including case analyses, group discussions, simulations, and team exercises, to make learning experiential and participant-focused. His mission is to empower and inspire his service-learning students, fostering a strong sense of ownership in their learning process.

In the classroom, Professor Odom’s enthusiasm for teaching shines brightly. He employs a dynamic teaching style that encourages open discussions about navigating the complexities of workplace culture and achieving success. His unique ability to bridge academic concepts with real-world workplace contexts is honed through two decades of experience in roles such as corporate executive, entrepreneur, management consultant, and executive coach.

Before embarking on his academic and industry careers, Professor Odom dedicated a decade to active duty service in the United States Navy, which included deployments during Operation Desert Storm.
